In celebration of National Small Business Week, (Apr 30th -May 6th) we sat down with four members to hear about their story, passions, impact, and businesses. The final member in our interview series is Rebecca Massoud, owner of SHINE Soul + Success. Rebecca started her business 4 years ago and has been a Hera Hub member for two years.
What was the inspiration behind your business?
Two things. A burning desire to be of service with my marketing and personal development expertise and a burning desire to be the boss of my own time. I LOVE having the freedom to be available to my young son when needed, giving myself Fridays off when I need it and setting up my schedule any way I please.
For two decades, though, I hid behind the success of others and downplayed my gifts. When I decided to start my business, I finally had the courage to put a stake in the ground for MY dream to be an entrepreneur, and my motto quickly became, “No more hiding. It’s time to shine!” SHINE became the name of my business, and that same motto became my personal message to women entrepreneurs.
How has your professional background prepared you for entrepreneurship/your small business?
20+ years in marketing other people’s businesses has been the best training ground for marketing my own and coaching my clients to create awesome results in their marketing.
What is the most rewarding part of owning your own business?
So much! But perhaps the most rewarding is part is seeing my clients change, grow, succeed, get into action, take risks, pick themselves up when they fail, get support, be vulnerable, step into their feminine power and leadership, really go for their hearts’ desires, shine their brilliance, AND kick butt with their goals & dreams, as they multiply their income and impact.
What is the greatest challenge in owning your own business?
Practicing discernment. Knowing when to listen to the “experts,” when to listen to my own inner wisdom and when to blend the two. Plus, pacing myself as I grow and expand—discerning when to put the pedal to the metal and when to ease off and create more downtime.
What is your life’s greatest passion? Purpose? How does your business align/support this mission?
This may sound corny but my purpose is to be the brightest ball of light I can be and emanate love no matter what. It’s fun to aspire to this ideal and have my business be a vehicle for my mission. I also know I’m here to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from mental illness. My sister had severe schizophrenia and died in her 40s. So my calling (and this is the first time I’m publicly sharing this) is to contribute in the biggest way I can to the mental health community.
What about your business are you most proud of?
I’m most proud that I followed my heart by starting my business in the first place. I didn’t have it all figured out or even know what my business was going to be before I said “YES.” So I let my intuition guide me, got into massive action, actively sought out support, and surrendered the “how.” To this day, I practice this way of doing business, and it works brilliantly!
What is your business’ future?
Go global! I’m bringing my live, in-person offerings online this year, so I can reach more of my ideal clients and continue to expand beyond a local presence.
