Patrick Henry, the host in this video, wrote a post for us with startup advice for entrepreneurs, which led to Felena being a guest on his show. This type of reciprocation is a win-win for both businesses and a great way to kick off a new business relationship.
Why was this a win-win? Guest posting and video interviews, as well as being a guest on a podcast, are a great way to increase visibility. The hosting site gets great content to share with their audience, and the guest gains exposure to a new audience that is within their niche.
If you’re ready to take this step with your business, here are some tips and a few ways to get started:
- Compile a list of your favorite publications, websites, journalists and podcasts that fit your niche. Follow them across social channels so you won’t miss a call for guests.
- Search Twitter for the keyword your topic will be plus ‘guest post.’ Ex: “female entrepreneur” + guest post.
- Use the profile photo of someone you admire to do a reverse Google image search. It will produce a handy list of all the guest opportunities they’ve had. (This was a great tip from Brian at Backlinko)
- Subscribe to the HARO newsletter (Help A Reporter Out). Sometimes media use that forum to put out a call for podcast guests.
- Hone your pitch and have it ready to go in case you get to your query.
- Once you’re selected, do your research on the host/publication so you can deliver the type of content that has performed well for them.
- If chosen for a podcast, make sure your tech is ready to go and and heave a backup system just in case. SumoMe has a great section on how to prepare for a podcast interview.
