Danielle Glosser, Principal at Client Raiser, is a consultant for artists in DC and across America. She originally began her career in social justice by moving to D.C., becoming very involved in the political arena.
She left that career to care for her children and started her consulting business quite by chance. After helping her next-door neighbor, a very famous local artist, who had asked for some advice, she realized that her skill set from her previous career could help artists sell their work and build their business. The rest is history. In just four years, she has gone from one accidental client to over 80 intentional ones.
Here are her words of wisdom:
Be goal-oriented when approaching big tasks.
“I basically look at what they’re doing to reach their goals and provide them with action items and a timeline on how best to do so.”
Trust your client and their vision.
“I help them by assessing the business side of their art practice. I don’t discriminate against any artist based on their work. If someone is willing to work toward their goals then I am happy to assist them.”
Share in the joy of your clients.
“Nothing more fun to me than calling a client saying someone’s interested in buying this piece or listening to them rave about what exhibition they got in or what prize they won.”
Go with your gut.
“You can ask as many people you want about your business, but ultimately it’s your business.”
Her most important advice?
“Just say yes to any opportunity that comes your way. I was really hesitant about getting into my business because I don’t have background in art and I just decided that if I can lift my skill set to a new community I [was] just going to be open and honest.”
Now, Danielle has up to 80 clients scattered all over the country. She went from giving her neighbor some good advice to a vibrant consulting business because she said “yes!” and you, too, can say yes.
Our takeaway:
“Go for it. The worst thing that could happen is you fail.”
