A nonprofit organization is often dedicated to furthering a particular social cause or advocating for a particular point of view.
According to UrbanInstitute.org, 2014 was a good year for the non-profit sector.
- Total private giving from individuals, foundations, and businesses totaled $358.38 billion
- An estimated 62.8 million adults, 25.3 percent of the US population, volunteered at least once in 2014
- Volunteers contributed an estimated 8.7 billion hours
Today is Worldwide Day of Giving. Started in 2010 by Reed Sandridge, it’s a day to give to $10, or whatever you can afford, to a stranger and then share your experience on social media. Sandridge started the tradition to honor his late mother.
