Our Women in Science Rock interview series continues with Lana Feng, Ph.D.  Lana is the Founder and CEO of Personalized Diagnostics. Lana is experienced business development professional in cancer diagnostics, companion diagnostics, and personalized medicine. She is highly technical and entrepreneurial. Lana has a proven track record of bringing in Pharma and biotech deals. She is experienced in working with international partners and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese (both spoken and written).

Lana was born into a family of doctors. She grew up exposed to the medical life sciences field. Her biology teacher in high school inspired her to pursue a career in genetics.  Lana received her Ph.D. from Indiana University at Bloomington. She actually started her graduate degree at Northwestern, but she followed her research professor to Indiana. Since Lana grew up in Beijing the transition from metropolises such as Beijing and Chicago to rural life in Indiana was quite the shock.

Lana has many key skills. She is highly technical since she has a Ph.D in Genetics and Biochemistry.  She is successful in business development and alliance building.  She has participated in a number of multi-million dollar deals.  She is also experienced with partnering in China

Lana’s advice for young girls is to not push them to hard. She thinks parental figures will always be parental figures to their children. She encourages her daughter and sets an example, but doesn’t want to pressure her to pursue a certain career in science.
