votes-for-women“We, as women, have finally come into our own!!!!”

Passionately and joyfully declared by our (great-great) grandmothers nearly 100 years ago when, in 1920, women were granted voting rights. That breakthrough did not come without pain, sacrifice and suffering. Thrilled for having been given their say in how government worked, little did they dream women would still be climbing that same tall mountain seeking equality in 2015. While we have certainly left base camp, we have yet to arrive at the summit.

You may wonder what women’s suffrage has to do with writing business copy.

It has everything to do with your voice and how you use it.

When women were given “permission” to vote, and throughout the decades that followed, it was assumed the only path to success was to take on the male persona. After all, the only models women had where business or independence was concerned were the men who had successfully made their way to the “top.” Surviving in the business world depended upon a male perspective. In many ways that boiled down to “the weak would fall to the strong.”

While our grandmother’s opened the door for us, it has taken a hundred years to accept that we also have the right to pave a new and effective path. The power and value of women is not that we can be like men, because quite frankly, we can take on that roll as easily as we exchange all the other “hats” we wear. But in the “taking on” we water down our message and influence. We too often surrender our greatest assets: Care and Connection. Women, when living within their natural wisdom, are connectors, healers, teachers and leaders. And amazingly successful at business when they trust their nature to do what we have done since life began on this planet: nurture a life into a living breathing being. Not just a human life, but a business as well.

When women communicate that deep abiding quality, whether through the spoken word or in our written communications, our voice and message becomes powerful, impactful. Not because we are women. It is because we are natural born leaders who see beyond what a client might pay for our services. We care about our clients and customers.

To write a compelling ebook, brochure, or web copy ask yourself:

What in my life brought me here?

What are my strengths?

How can I translate that Care and Connection into my message?

There are so many ways to access the heart and soul of your work and communicate that with the world. Your authenticity builds the bridge that your clients will cross.

Bottom line: Don’t leave yourself out of your message or your business!
