At Hera Hub, we love celebrating the entrepreneurial journeys of our members, each with their own unique story of resilience, passion, and innovation. This month, we’re spotlighting Shira Bliss, founder of San Diego Beer, Wine, and Spirits Tours, who turned a career setback into an exciting business that showcases the best of San Diego’s craft beverage scene.
What was the inspiration behind your business?
When the recession impacted my career in 2009, I was working as a mergers and acquisitions consultant—and a single mom. I managed to resist the temptation to become discouraged. Instead, I chose to reinvent myself. “Do what you love, and the money will follow.” Those words motivated me to combine my love of walking (along the beach in La Jolla), fine wine, and gourmet food into a tour company that would introduce residents and visitors to local restaurants and wineries while helping to boost the local economy.
In 2010, together with my best friend, I created a successful tour business, including Chauffeured Vineyard Adventures throughout San Diego County: sdbeerwinespiritstours.com.
I’m originally from Belfast, Ireland, where I received my culinary education—I’m quite the foodie! I also have a creative background with several leading international performance groups, which helps me engage my tour guests.
I’m pleased to share my experience in discovering the best local wine, beer, spirits, and food offerings. I continue to research (and taste) the finest that San Diego has to offer! Raised in a wine business family, I bring a wealth of information and enthusiasm, delivering unique and memorable experiences to all.
TASTE and SEE the best of San Diego’s wine, food, and sights with Shira Bliss! Delighting tens of thousands of guests since 2010. With thousands of 5-STAR reviews, you’re guaranteed a top-notch adventure!
Who are your clients and what do you do for them?
My clients come from all over the world—women and men ranging in age from 21 to 90! (Yes, I’ve even hosted a 90-year-old on my tour!). I love sharing the best of San Diego’s wine, food, and sights with them!
What are your business’ values? How do they align with your personal values?
Kindness is my top priority. I always strive to put myself in others’ shoes and offer kindness and joy, just as I would want for myself.
How/Why did you choose your business name?
The name “San Diego Beer, Wine, and Spirits Tours” perfectly reflects the diverse craft beverages I love to promote. My company is also known as Tasty Adventures, which truly says it all!
What do you love most about your work?
I love seeing the smile on your face when you join my wine tour!
What is the biggest challenge in running your own business?
I’m a perfectionist, which sometimes makes it hard for me to let things go and just relax!
What are your/your business’ goals for the future?
I’m 65, so I’d love to work a little less while still bringing tasty adventures to my guests!
