In honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Melissa Lee interviewed three Hera Hub members who are also athletes. Allison Able, Sarah Savoca, and Theresa Wells talk openly about their experience in overcoming a few challenges they faced as female athletes, including gender, body image, and societal stereotypes. These inspiring women also have a message they want women and girls to hear now about being strong – whether they are using their bodies or running a business.

Sarah Savoca is a Mental Skills Specialist & NLP Master Coach and Trainer who guides high performing athletes to heal mindset blocks and excel during and beyond sport. Sarah’s coaching practice focuses on Mindset & Mental Skills Coaching for current and former athletes. Sarah guides her clients to live in alignment with their values and purpose in order to create a better relationship with themselves, holistic success, and a mindset of excellence.

Allison Able is originally from Leawood, Kansas, and attended the University of Kansas, where she was an athlete on the women’s rowing team and majored in Exercise Science. She then pursued their passion for fitness and became a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Eastern Illinois University, working with volleyball, tennis, swimming, and football athletes. In 2017, she relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she worked as a yoga teacher and personal trainer. During this time she completed her Master’s in Sports Nutrition through The University of Concordia Chicago. Allison returned to the mainland in 2021, settling in Carlsbad. There, she started Able Bodies Fitness, where she offers online and in-person personal training. She helps women get strong, eat right, and train for life’s adventures.

Theresa Wells is an Integrative Health & Performance Coach and an advocate in the health and fitness industry. Providing services in the areas of personal training, nutrition coaching and athletic conditioning and private and online marathon training programs. She also provides online courses centered around self-care (mental, physical, emotional and behavioral health). She firmly believes in an alternative healing, holistic health and whole person approach. She merged her over 20 years experience in school based counseling and physical health with her vast knowledge in the fitness industry; in order to create a realistic, results based, appropriate approach in which to help the Tone At Home Fitness family flourish in living successfully fit lives.
