If you’ve ever been anxious or depressed for a while, and then experienced that condition lifting, you realize the air smells better and you can see bright colors again. Without our good mental health, we are cut off from the world and each other. Everyone deserves to be able to access calm and clarity as a natural state of being, and we must continue to create ways to help people release their trauma so we can come together to solve our communal problems.

Mental health is a universal human right simply because every human possesses an authentic self and the capacity to love. As mental health professionals, our role is to help guide people towards a more free expression of this authentic self, to understand the obstacles preventing it, and to develop compassion for themselves and others.

I believe it is everyone’s birthright to remember their own power and divinity. It is a part of the journey we are meant to take in this human experience. And as such, we all deserve the opportunity to overcome anything that is stopping us from remembering, including overcoming mental health issues. I know this is possible because of my own personal experience in healing from anxiety disorder.
