Small businesses are a vital part of our nation’s economy. It is estimated that there are now 11.3 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., employing nearly 9 million people and generating over $1.6 trillion in revenues. In California, where Hera Hub is headquartered, almost 6.7 million people are employed by a small business owner.
Though the idea for Small Business Saturday originated with a credit card company, the concept of supporting local businesses has become increasingly popular over the years. Farmers’ Markets, CSA’s, the farm-to-table and locavore movements are all about educating consumers to support their local economies.
On average, 48 percent of each purchase at local independent business is recirculated locally, compared to less than 14 percent of purchases made at chain stores.
Hera Hub has more than 400 members across its four locations, with two more spaces in the works. That is 400 businesswomen (and a few men!) providing goods, services and non-profit efforts on a local level.
In advance of gift giving season, we’d like to showcase some of our members’ products to encourage you to Shop Small and support female business owners!
