National Pastry Day is the perfect moment to honor the craft, creativity, and joy that baked goods bring into our lives. From flaky classics to elegant modern confections, pastries remind us that skill and imagination can turn simple ingredients into something unforgettable. It is also a day to spotlight the makers behind the magic, the artisans who pour their passion, precision, and heart into every bite.
To honor the day, we’re delighted to introduce a member whose work captures the heart of pastry craftsmanship: Carey Fox, founder of Flour Fox & Cocoa.
Carey Fox’s culinary journey began at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, where she trained in savory cooking. Yet even early in her career, she found herself drawn to the pastry side of the kitchen, often stepping in whenever dessert prep needed an extra hand. Her first professional role at Vicki Lee’s in Belmont, Massachusetts, a restaurant known for its beautiful cakes, strengthened that interest as she watched massive mixers whip fluffy Swiss meringue buttercream.
Baking had always been part of Carey’s life, a tradition that began with childhood afternoons spent making treats for friends and neighbors. After the birth of her second child, she took a role at Bakeshop in Portland, Oregon, partly for the early hours and partly to explore something that had always fascinated her. That experience is where she truly fell in love with the technical rhythm, the aroma, and the sense of connection that baking brings.
Today, Carey is the founder and owner of Flour Fox & Cocoa, where she creates specialty cakes for birthdays, graduations, and weddings. She offers dessert catering with beautiful tiered displays, along with in-home culinary events that invite guests to learn to cook or bake together. Her work blends skill, creativity, and a sincere love for sharing joyful food experiences.
