In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we invite you to carve out time and make space for support, reflection, and connection.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.”

Since our needs can take many forms, we curated a list of experiential opportunities from Hera Hub members. These expert entrepreneurs are supporting the variety of needs in our community!

3 Truths about Mental Health

Mental health problems are common, and support is needed.

  • In 2020, 1 in 5 American adults experienced a mental health issue, 1 in 6 young people experienced a major depressive episode, and 1 in 20 Americans lived with a serious mental illness.
  • Only 20% of adults received any mental health treatment, including professional counseling or therapy, in the past year.

Friends and loved ones can help and make a big difference for a person suffering with a mental health problem by:

  • Reaching out and letting them know you are available to help
  • Helping them access mental health services
  • Treating them with respect, as you would anyone else

Many mental illnesses can be prevented.

  • Prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders focuses on addressing known risk factors.
  • Promoting the social-emotional well-being of children and youth leads to higher overall productivity and better educational outcomes, lower crime rates, stronger economies, lower health care costs, and improved quality of life.
