International Day of Yoga is a beautiful reminder that success is not only about movement, productivity, and growth. It is also about stillness, clarity, and connection to ourselves.

For small business owners, the pace can be relentless. There are always decisions to make, people to support, problems to solve, and opportunities to chase. It is easy to believe that pushing harder is the answer. But often, the real power comes from pausing long enough to breathe, reset, and move forward with intention.

As Susana points out in our interview, International Day of Yoga falls on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a meaningful alignment: a day associated with light, energy, and renewal paired with a practice rooted in balance, breath, and presence. For small business owners, this is a powerful reminder that sustainable growth does not come from constant pushing. It comes from staying centered, clear, and intentional.

Yoga teaches us to come back to center. Not just on the mat, but in our work and leadership. It reminds us to be present, flexible, grounded, and resilient; all qualities entrepreneurs need every single day.

Staying centered does not require a perfect routine or an hour-long practice. It can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths before a difficult conversation, stepping away from your desk for a mindful walk, stretching between meetings, or starting the day with a moment of quiet.  As Susana describes in this interview, it can also be as simple as a few breaths and stretches before bed.

This International Day of Yoga, consider it an invitation to pause. Breathe. Reconnect. Your business needs your vision… but it also needs you centered, steady, and whole.

Susana Jones began practicing yoga while attending the University of Colorado in Boulder. After training with CorePower Yoga in 2009, she opened Urban Yogi in downtown San Diego, where she developed a yoga teacher training curriculum and certified over 50 yoga teachers (RYS 200).

Susana has received over 1,000 hours of formal yoga training, and became a certified yoga therapist through the Soul of Yoga Institute in 2019. In private practice, Susana implemented client-focused plans of care to address joint pain, mood instability, and general health concerns with a holistic approach to therapeutic yoga.

She specializes in identifying dysfunctional movement patterns related to peoples’ occupation and daily habits, counteracting those with yogic asana and awareness, and reinforcing healthier posture dynamics. This focus adds to her clients’ quality of life, and helps prevent repetitive stress injuries.

Becoming a mother in 2020 inspired Susana to work on behalf of maternal well-being during the developmentally-crucial First Five Years of a child’s life, and beyond.

Her graduate research focused on wellness in early motherhood, which formed a therapeutic framework for her YouTube videos and Yoga for Mom-Life podcast.

These days, Susana teaches in-studio at Neurocrine Biosciences and CorePower Yoga Del Mar Highlands. She dedicates her work to Peace on Earth.
