Women Empowering Women

Many women running small businesses also juggle family life, and therefore feel an affinity with other women in the same situation. A supportive environment where women feel they easily relate to others helps get to that point in the relationship where they know, like, and trust the other person and are therefore more likely to ask for feedback or refer business.  At Hera Hub you will find this supportive, female-focused environment.

Study Shows Importance of Networks to Women’s Success

Women empowering women is more than just a theory.  In a Kaufman Foundation study (“Are Successful Women Entrepreneurs Different from Men?” May 2010), women rated their professional and business networks as important contributors to success more highly than men did. It was also found that women especially benefit from other types of social support and encouragement beyond business.

Several of the identified gender differences in the study indicate that support and encouragement from key people can especially benefit women in their efforts to found successful companies. Many women feel more comfortable in an all-woman environment and typically get to a point of trust much quicker, especially in a safe, supportive environment like Hera Hub.

What’s in a Name?

Felena Hanson, Hera Hub’s founder, wanted to find a name that had meaning but wasn’t overtly feminine. After hours of research, she found herself drawn to the Greek Goddesses for their significance and historical meaning.

Felena felt Hera, Greek Goddess of women, was most fitting because in ancient times, Hera was revered as being the only Goddess who accompanied a woman through every step of her life; blessing and protecting her family and financial security. Being Zeus’ wife, Hera represented the fullness of life and affirms that women can use their wisdom in the pursuit of any goal they choose.

Hera’s importance in the early archaic period is attested by the large building projects undertaken in her honor.

What’s up with the Peacock?

You will see peacock images all over Hera Hub.  That’s because Hera’s symbol was the male peacock feather.  This was partly on account of Hera’s great beauty, and particularly her beautiful, large eyes, that she is linked to the peacock with its iridescent feathers having “eyes”.

The peacock symbolizes her luxury, beauty, and immortality.

Additional “fun” notes about the symbolism:

The peacock naturally replaces his feathers annually; as such, the peacock is also a symbol of renewal.

Early believe held that the Gates of Paradise are guarded by a pair of peacocks.

The peacock is a symbol of integrity and the beauty we can achieve when we endeavor to show our true colors. In history, myth, legend and lore, the peacock symbolism carries portents of: nobility, guidance, protection and watchfulness.
