A nonprofit organization is often dedicated to furthering a particular social cause or advocating for a particular point of view.

According to UrbanInstitute.org, 2014 was a good year for the non-profit sector.

  • Total private giving from individuals, foundations, and businesses totaled $358.38 billion
  • An estimated 62.8 million adults, 25.3 percent of the US population, volunteered at least once in 2014
  • Volunteers contributed an estimated 8.7 billion hours

Today is Worldwide Day of Giving. Started in 2010 by Reed Sandridge, it’s a day to give to $10, or whatever you can afford, to a stranger and then share your experience on social media. Sandridge started the tradition to honor his late mother.

If you’d rather not give money to someone you don’t know, consider making a donation (time or money) to one of these wonderful nonprofits run or staffed by one of our members. The organizations range from animal advocacy to inspiring confidence in young girls.
